The Embassy of Sweden is seeking a candidate for the position as Programme Assistant / Financial Assistant. The position forms part of the Development Cooperation Section and reports to the Head of Development Cooperation Section. The Programme Assistant / Financial Assistant also assists the Administrative Section with financial tasks. The Embassy has a staff of close to 40 persons. The duties of the Embassy involve working to implement bilateral development cooperation with Bangladesh, promoting political relations and trade between both countries and providing consular, visa and other migration services. Main Job Responsibilities

As Programme Assistant / Financial Assistant, you would have a key role in providing administrative support, quality assurance support and maintaining information systems. This includes:

  • – Managing the calendar of the Head of Development Cooperation.
    – Preparing and managing Development Cooperation Section meetings and other Embassy events.
    – Being focal point for Sida´s International Training Programme (ITP). – Manage the ITP, including full course administration process and alumni data base maintenance.
    – Assisting the Controllers with the monthly follow up of development cooperation portfolio reports and updates and perform other quality assurance support.
    – Performing other administrative tasks at the Development Cooperation Section such as managing database of key documents, managing time reporting etc.
    – Being the Development Cooperation Section focal point for Sida HQ administrative and IT units and member of Sida´s PA Network.
    – Providing support to the Chief Accountants Officer with the financial operations at the Embassy by preparing cash transactions, reconciliations, and payments.
    – Performing VAT reimbursement processes.
    – Performing other duties as and when required.

Qualification and Professional Experience

– Relevant academic background
– Minimum 3 years of experience working in similar roles in international organizations, Embassies, large non-governmental organizations, or private sector

Skills and Competencies

– Fluent written and spoken English and proficient in Bangla
– Excellent IT literacy, especially high proficiency in MS Office
– Ability to initiate and work independently, as well as having the capacity to meet deadlines with a high level of quality and accuracy.
– Excellent interpersonal skills. We seek someone who is flexible, and who can organize and plan their work and is able to work well in a team and respect individual differences.

Sweden and Bangladesh have had diplomatic relations for over 50 years and the Embassy of Sweden has been situated in Bangladesh since 1975. The main mission of the Embassy is to promote and monitor Swedish interests. We work with development, aid, migration, consular, business and trade and we are 40 local and sent out staff divided into four sections. The Migration section is working mainly with visas and residence permits. The working language of the Embassy is English. Main Job Responsibilities

– Receive, review, and register residence permit applications from Bangladeshi applicants.
– Perform investigations and interviews with applicants in both Bangla and English.
– Verify the authenticity of documents.
– Collect biometrics.
– Share information. externally through email and telephone.
– Other related tasks as instructed.

Professional and personal qualifications

– University degree or relevant equivalent working experience in a similar post, preferably with another Embassy, High Commission, UN organisation or similar organisation
– Fluent in English (verbal and written)
– Good computer skills
– Service-minded
– The candidate must show ability to independently perform duties and to ensure the delivery and completion of tasks, also under periods of high workload. Flexibility and ability to prioritize is a must, as well as to be motivated and have a willingness to learn new things.

It will add value if you have

– good knowledge of the Government offices, State institutions and Diplomatic Missions
– previous work experience in the field of visas and migration
– experience of team-based work is desirable
